Year 6

Welcome to Year 6!!

Here we go!! Another brand new year full of exciting possibilities, and learning experiences. There's a lot to look forward to including some excellent topics as well as opportunities for children to explore their own learning and interests.
Below you will find lots of links to useful information about our class and to the children's learning, including photos and examples of work. However, if you require any other additional information on school matters or your child's progress or you just want to nip in for a quick chat, we are always happy to help.
Here's to a happy and fruitful year as some of the children take their final steps in their primary education and others prepare for Year 6.

Our Class Vision
In our class we achieve our goals. We are skilled and make each other proud by working hard, being a good listener, a good role model and by always doing our best. We are caring towards each other and the environment. We are also generous to others and are patient and grateful for our friends. In our class we are cool and amazingly awesome.

Homework

Homework will be set on Friday and should be completed by Tuesday. Tasks will be set on Seesaw and My Maths, but children will also have a Homework Book for some activities. There are many other skills that children can be practising at home, including reading  every evening, learning times tables (TT Rock Stars) and practising literacy and numeracy skills in real-life contexts e.g. working out percentages in sales.

If there are any issues concerning homework, please don't hesitate in contacting school so that the situation can be resolved.

Reading

By Year 6 children will be reading with a great deal more independence and will have clear preferences as to what they enjoy reading. With this in mind, they are welcome to bring in their own books to school or choose from the class and school library. All that we ask is that their book is in every day, they are filling in their reading records (in which you are also welcome to make comments) and that they are reading every day. The teaching of reading will take place in Guided and Shared reading which will form part of the children's language education. They will also learn to apply their skills through other subjects.

PE

This year PE lessons will take place on:

Monday - Outdoor Games/Indoor Gym (Black or gray jogging bottoms, white t-shirt, warm top and trainers)

Tuesday  - Forest Schools. Suitable outdoor clothing according to the weather. On wet, wintry days, spare socks and footwear may be needed.

Currently, children need to come to school in their appropriate kit so that no changing time is needed.
