How will we learn in Nursery?
The children in Early Years will learn in a Foundation Phase setting. The Foundation Phase is a developmental curriculum for 3 to 7-year-olds in Wales. Through active involvement children learn life skills, extend their imagination, creative skills, physical development and communication and thinking skills.
We encourage children to use a range of resources to fuel their activities and actively encourage children to play alongside or with others to build on their collaborative skills. Equally we encourage children to become independent, managing their own belongings, finding their own activities and making decisions.
Through careful observation we discover what and how children are learning, how they communicate and how we can best provide for the next stage of their learning. We support them in their play by listening to them, watching them, providing and encouraging questions and extending their thinking. This, in addition to adult led activities provides a balanced curriculum.
What will we learn in Nursery?
The Foundation Phase has seven areas of learning, where stimulating structured play activities can be woven into the learning experiences. This term we will be learning through the topic of Through the Window.
Topic for this term
All children will be provided with a healthy snack and a drink of water or milk during the afternoon session. The cost is £1 per week. Therefore, the cost for this half term is £7. Please can snack money be paid using the schools Gateway system
School dinners cost £2.05p each. Please pay dinner money using the school Gateway system.
The children will be given the opportunity to take a storybook home from the class library. They will be able to choose one book each week to bring home and enjoy with you. Please bring book bags in on a Thursday and they will be returned on a Friday in time for the weekend.
We have P.E on a Tuesday afternoon. The P.E kit is a white t-shirt and black shorts .This term all PE sessions will take place indoors.
Children are welcome to leave P.E kits in school all week if you wish to save bringing them everyday.
At Ysgol Rhos Helyg we provide lots of opportunities for your child to work in the outdoor environment. We are fortunate in Early Years to have access to our own outdoor environment straight from the classroom. Therefore, we hope to use this environment as often as possible in order to enhance children’s learning experiences.
Please label all items clearly with your child’s name.
I am looking forward to a successful year with your children.
Thank you for your support,
