How will we learn in Reception?
The children in  Reception  will learn by following the Curriculum for Wales. The Curriculum for Wales aims to prepare  young people to thrive in a future where digital skills, adaptability and creativity, alongside knowledge are crucial.. Through active involvement children learn life skills, extend their imagination, creative skills, physical development and communication and thinking skills.

We encourage children to use a range of resources to fuel their activities and actively encourage children to play alongside or with others to build on their collaborative skills. Equally we encourage children to become independent, managing their own belongings, finding their own activities and making decisions.

Through careful observation we discover what and how children are learning, how they communicate and how we can best provide for the next stage of their learning. We support them in their play by listening to them, watching them, providing and encouraging questions and extending their thinking. This, in addition to adult led activities provides a balanced curriculum.

Topic for this term
Homes

Reading
In school your child will be immersed in language experiences and activities. Their skills will develop through talking, communicating and listening. Your child will have opportunities to choose and use reading materials and will be given a wide range of opportunities to talk about reading materials available to them. Please bring book bags in on a Thursday and they will be returned on a Friday in time for the weekend.

Seesaw

Your child will be given a QR code to access their individual Seesaw account. We upload photographs of your child's  learning and share important information with you via seesaw. It is therefore essential that you  are logged into the app. Please ask for help with this if needed. We are happy to show you how to use the app to support your child.

PE Lessons
We have P.E on a Monday  afternoon. The P.E kit is a white t-shirt and black joggers. Children can come to school dressed ready for P.E.

Outdoor Learning
At Ysgol Rhos Helyg we provide lots of opportunities for your child to work in the outdoor environment. We are fortunate in Early Years to have access to our own outdoor environment straight from the classroom. Therefore, we hope to use this environment as often as possible in order to enhance children’s learning experiences.
Please label all items clearly with your child’s name.
Children are to come to school dressed in old/warm Forest School clothes on a Thursday please.

Dinner Money
School dinners cost £2.50p per day. Please pay using the schools Gateway system.

Absences
If your child is absent from school please telephone school to explain any absence so the register can be updated as soon as possible.

I am looking forward to another successful term with your children.
Thank you for your support,

Mrs Smith
