How will we learn in Nursery?
The children in Nursery will learn in a Foundation Phase setting. The Foundation Phase is a developmental curriculum for 3 to 7-year-olds in Wales. Through active involvement children learn life skills, extend their imagination, creative skills, physical development and communication and thinking skills.

We encourage children to use a range of resources to fuel their activities and actively encourage children to play alongside or with others to build on their collaborative skills. Equally we encourage children to become independent, managing their own belongings, finding their own activities and making decisions.

Through careful observation we discover what and how children are learning, how they communicate and how we can best provide for the next stage of their learning. We support them in their play by listening to them, watching them, providing and encouraging questions and extending their thinking. This, in addition to adult led activities provides a balanced curriculum.

PE Lessons
We have P.E on a Wednesday afternoon. The P.E kit is a white t-shirt and black joggers.

This term all PE sessions will take place indoors. Children can come to school dressed ready for P.E.

Outdoor Learning
At Ysgol Rhos Helyg we provide lots of opportunities for your child to work in the outdoor environment. We are fortunate in Early Years to have access to our own outdoor environment straight from the classroom. Therefore, we hope to use this environment as often as possible in order to enhance children’s learning experiences.
Please label all items clearly with your child’s name.

I am looking forward to another successful term with your children.

Thank you for your support,

Mrs James-Faulkner
