How will we learn in Nursery?
The children in Nursery will learn through Nursery education. Through active involvement children learn life skills, extend their imagination, creative skills, physical development and communication and thinking skills.
We encourage children to use a range of resources to fuel their activities and actively encourage children to play alongside or with others to build on their collaborative skills. Equally we encourage children to become independent, managing their own belongings, finding their own activities and making decisions.
Through careful observation we discover what and how children are learning, how they communicate and how we can best provide for the next stage of their learning. We support them in their play by listening to them, watching them, providing and encouraging questions and extending their thinking. This, in addition to adult led activities provides a balanced curriculum.
In the early years we have adopted the 'Planning in The Moment' approach, which has been extremely successful. This approach involves completing the planning cycle in the moment by listening to the child, assessing and planning in the moment to develop these interests further.
Topic for this term
Open A Book (based on Julia Donaldson's stories 'The Gruffalo, The Gruffalo's Child' and 'Stick Man'
Reading
In school your child will be immersed in language experiences and activities. Their skills will develop through talking, communicating and listening. Your child will have opportunities to choose and use reading materials and will be given a wide range of opportunities to talk about reading materials available to them. Please bring book bags in every Thursday with their Library book so that they are able to change their book and enjoy another great book to share with you at home.
Seesaw
Your child will be given a QR code to access their individual Seesaw account. We upload photographs of your child's learning and share important information with you via seesaw. It is therefore essential that you are logged into the app. Please ask for help with this if needed. We are happy to show you how to use the app to support your child.
Towards the end of the Term your child will be supported to upload work they have done with a brief explanation using the microphone using the QR code in the classroom.
Dinner Money
Please pay dinner money using the school Gateway system.
PE Lessons
We have P.E on a Monday afternoon. The P.E kit is a white t-shirt and black joggers/Leggins/shorts.
This term all PE sessions will take place indoors. Children can come to school dressed ready for P.E.
Outdoor Learning
At Ysgol Rhos Helyg we provide lots of opportunities for your child to work in the outdoor environment. We are fortunate in Early Years to have access to our own outdoor environment straight from the classroom. Therefore, we hope to use this environment as often as possible in order to enhance children’s learning experiences.
Forest School will be every Wednesday. Please ensure that your children has old/warm clothes and wellingtons in a bag.
Please label all items clearly with your child’s name.
I am looking forward to another successful term with your children.
Thank you for your support,
Mrs A Hunt
